help!
i was usin my laptop for quite a while online (i was plugged into the outlet in the wall through a surge protector). I decided to give the laptop a bit of a rest after being on for so long, so i turned it off. everything was fine.
about an 20 minutes later, i went to turn it back on, and it didn't post! the screen is blank (as is the external screen i have), the keyboard is unresponsive, the WLAN switch doesn't turn on the little light, and nothing loads. it just sits there. the only way to turn it off is to hold the powerbutton.
now, i did upgrade the bios about a month ago. it was acting up here and there ever since, but i didn't think much of it. and now this! the only thing i installed was more ram and that was two months ago, and it was fine! when i take out the ram i installed, it does the same thing.
what do i do?
Toshiba M50-MX2:
Celeron M 1.5GHZ 1MB L2
512 DDR2 PC4200 RAM
60GB 5400RPM HDD
DVD+/-RW CDRW DVD-RAM

Key word is "new". Get it with the upgrades installed. Toshiba is a good company. I've used Toshibas before trouble free. Still have a 20 year old 80C86 Toshiba laptop that still runs perfectly.

i did buy it new from staples, but it is beyond their return policy
i called toshiba, got a case number, but they told me that is may not be covered.
WTF!? i used THEIR software to upgrade THEIR bios using THEIR instructions on THEIR website!!
it had better be covered! >:(

Your frustration is justified, and Toshiba's position is....well, disappointing. Hope you win your warranty issue with them.
Anyway, for now:
"i went to turn it back on, and it didn't post!"
1. Do you get any beeps at all?
2. Can you enter BIOS?

" ....i did upgrade the bios about a month ago. it was acting up here and there ever since,........"
If you upgraded the bios a month ago, that's not the cause of your no boot problem - if it was it would have stopped booting the next boot after you flashed.
However, did you load Bios Defaults after you flashed? You MUST do that to set up your new bios version properly - otherwise you have a mix of old and new bios user settings in the cmos part of the bios. The most likely cause of your problem is a loose connection. Make sure your ram is well seated and in the right slots, check for loose connectors. Make sure the battery is making good contact, try it with/without the AC adapter, with/without the main battery. It could also be a bad power supply inside the computer, they can fail or partially fail suddenly, but that's not likely with a Toshiba.
A local Toshiba certified repair place can probably find what is wrong in a few minutes if you can't figure it out, and help you get a warranty replacement if you need to do that.

well,
i tried all that, and it worked for a little while, and now it isn't again.
i'm tired of this.
i took it to a local computer shop instead of toshiba. they're gonna diagnose it for free, so i can take it to toshiba and tell them to fix it!!
