Comment: First question is, I have bought RAM that is not listed on my motherboard's (a8n-sli) qualified vendors list. It is the correct type, ddr400 pc3200, so will it still work? Second, I bought pretty cheap RAM, what am I gaining if I pay 3x the price for what seem to be the same specs? Overclocking ability? So what if I dont overclock, no reason to pay more? Thanks for listening

Reply: (edit)If it's not listed it just means it hasn't been tested by the mobo manufacturer. It will still work and it may or may not be as good as branded. When you've installed it try running Memtest86 on your system - cheaper memory will often come up with errors - your PC can usually work around some but if you get too many then you will get problems like freezing & crashing. Reply: (edit)Great, thanks for that. Another question, what do the timings on memory mean, and what are the better timings? I've seen all sorts of different types. And is that what you change when you overclock memory, the timings? oh, also, what does 1T or 2T mean in reference to memory? <--unwillingly ignorant

Reply: (edit)"your PC can usually work around some (memory erros) but if you get too many then you will get problems like freezing & crashing." That's mot correct Johnr. The PC CANNOT 'work around' memory errors. Any memory error will cause corruption of data or system crashes. The exception is if ECC memory is installed. But that is normally only used in critical servers.
