Need advise. I just bought a new 400Gb HDD(internal). What's the best setup scenario to give me optimum performance? Here's how I currently have it setup. Please let me know if this is best.

80GB HDD - Primary IDE Master
(Free slot) - Primary IDE Slave
400GB HDD - Secondary IDE Master
DVD-RW - Secondary IDE Slave

2nd question: Would putting both HDD's on the same IDE cable slow performance?

Putting both hard disk on the same cable will not slow performance noticeably unless you spend a lot of time copying from one hard disk to the other.

However if you are burning from the 400 GB HDD to the DVD that will slow performance as they both have to share the interface.

You would be better having both hard disk on the primary interface and the DVD alone on the secondary interface.

Stuart thanks for the advise. I think I will do that.
