1tb iomega hard drive won't show up

March 15, 2011 at 09:15:38
Specs: Windows XP
My 1tb iomega hard drive is about 6 months old and now my desktop computer nor my laptop won't recognized it. None of the computers will make any noise nor light up when I connected it. The company has replaced the adapter but still no luck. Now, one thing that I did notice before this mishap was that sometimes either I would move the cables or the actual external drive, it would log out and I had to re-enter into the external drive to continue working with it. Help as I have saved many pictures on this device.

Sounds like you have a connector issue. You may need a new external enclosure.

Saving ONLY one copy of any personal data is just asking to be hurt. There are so many ways for you to lose that irreplaceable data. You should keep at least two copies of any files you want to retain. If the data is very important you should make even more than two and keep one off site.

Burn the data to DVDR and then you can duplicate the disks as needed.

Going back to you immediate issue. The file system may have become corrupted by improper disconnection. Look in Windows Disk Management to see if the drive shows there. If it does, post any information you see for that drive.
