Visit http://www.crucial.com/index.asp
Let them scan your system and tell you what ram is compatible and the maximum amount you can install.
Is your system a brand-name or was it custombuilt?

This is due to the computer BIOS being set for OS install mode. To fix, reboot computer and hit the F2 (or BIOS setup key, may be F12) and enter the BIOS setup. Use the down arrow key to the topic "OS Install Mode" and if it indicates ON, turn it off by using the RIGHT ARROW and make sure it is set to OFF. Reboot the computer.
