OS: Vista 32bit
CPU/Ram: 3.2ghz 4gb
Comment:

I actually have 4gb of ram, but it says 1.75 in windows. The system check in BIOS confirms 4gb detected. Should I have gotten 64bit Vista? What is going on? Let me know how to fix this, and if I should go with 64bit or 32bit vista.

Thanks

Who upgraded the RAM? You should be seeing about 3454MB or 3.12GB of RAM but never the full 4GB in both 32-bit & 64-bit Vista. This is by design. Read response number 2 in this thread.

I bought it this way from alienware, it just came today, and it is all sorts of messed up. It is freezing too. It has 4gb and 32bit Vista.

Should I get 64bit?

No, you probably need to get different RAM. But before doing anything, run memtest86 to see if any errors are found.

Do you have a dual GPU (SLI) setup in the notebook?

Also, have you checked Alienware's FAQ/Knowledge Base or contacted them? You probably need to go into system's BIOS & enable Memory Remap.

As soon as service pack 1 went on it was fine. However, it keeps freezing, i think its a hdd issue.
