I bought a Radeon 9200 for my computer, popped it in, had no problems. I started up dxdiag, and ran the DirectX tests. DirectDraw tests, all fine. I ran Direct3D tests. First two tests, no problem. Then, on the DirectX 9 test, the box popped up faded and the side of the screen was white and curved, and suddenly it turned off. It hasn't turned back on since.

When I push power, it clicks a couple times. I took it to Best Buy, and they said the power supply was gone. I've had this for two years with no issues, until I installed Windows XP. In certain resolutions, with certain refresh rates, the monitor would whistle.

Windows said I could go up to 85hz, but when I set it there, it would whistle. I had it running at 75hz, no problems.

On the back of it, in the top left corner, it says TE786T, but on the bottom right, it says Model TE785G. So I'm not positive which it is. I'm looking for a replacement power supply now.

My question is this. Could the power supply have been blown because of setting the refresh rate too high? Or is the monitor just crap? If I can't get it fixed cheap, I'll buy a new one, and if it's a crap brand, I wouldn't want to buy one like it again. Who makes good CRTs?

It will cost more to fix than it's worth.

Parts and labor quickly add up to more than a replacement monitor will cost.

Sony makes excellent monitors. But you can get a lemon from any manufacturer.

I knew I spelled it wrong. It's Relisys. D'oh.

Anyway. The guy at Best Buy told me the same thing, I'd be cheaper to get a new one. Ah well. I'll have to start saving up. I'm still curious though, could setting the refresh rate too high blow the monitor power supply?

I know it can destroy your monitor, but would this be one way?

And any suggestions on a good brand are welcome. I'll look into Sony =)
