If it is not an IDE drive it is probably the drive address of a SCSI drive. Check whether you have a 40 or 50 pin cable.

Is the model number CR-563-B?

If so, it is a non-IDE drive most commonly connected to a sound card.

Possubly sold as a kit by Reveal or Creative or installed in a Packard Bell computer.

Need more information, verification of model number, make and model of sound card, make and model of computer.

One reason is you don't have any more IDE connectors available. Single IDE connector on motherboard with 2 hard drives.

You still managed to NOT post your model number. I plugged the numbers you have me into "Google" and GUESS WHAT?????????

THIS came up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://miataru.computing.net/windows31/wwwboard/forum/8967.html

So now, go read this post and see if that doesn't help.

This drive is NOT an IDE drive. it is what's called a "proprietary" drive, meaning it needs a special interface card. Many of these are "on sound cards." I have one or two old sound cards that have 4 connectors on them to handle all the older cdroms that were around then.

Thanks for all the Help so far. Yes it is Packard Bell 586 and the Computer works fine
but with no CD-ROM Sound. Well, there are no
Jumpers to worry about so, let me work on the Driver End and see what happens.

Hi, could use your advice once more. Would it be possible to just add an IDE CD-ROM as Slave and connect to the old Packard bell Sound Card Connector marked CD SOUND IN ?
Or would a PCI Sound Card work in this Computer. Would like to know before I go for
the extra Expence.

Yes you should be able to use a standard IDE CD drive.

If you have PCI slots then a PCI sound card should work. My machine has an AT card.

Why don't you try and find the drivers for the current sound card? We need a model number for the sound card. PB used several different model cards.

Thanks again, wizard-fred.
I do have the Driver and also the Microsoft Sound thru the Speakers. However, can not play Music CDs because of the greyed out area
to make the Checkmark for the CD to play Music. If you think the IDE and PCI will work
I will give this a try.

To play music CD's you need the small cable that goes from the back of the CD drive to one of the small connectors on the sound card. The connector on the sound card is usually white, 4 pins, about .1 x .4 inch.
