Ok here is what I have it is an IBM Netvisa

Overview (United States and Canada) - NetVista 8307

System board/Form factor

* Micro ATX / Microtower (4x5)

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 with integrated L2 cache
* 400MHz or 533MHz system bus

Cache : 256KB cache or 512KB on-die L2 advanced transfer cache
Chipsets : Intel 845G chipset

Memory 266MHz DDR (Double Data Rate) RAM
* 2 DIMM sockets (1 open)
* 2 - 184-pin DIMMs
* Supports a maximum memory up to 2GB
* ECC not supported

I am attempting to see if this computer is functioning. The computer has 2 fans one for the cpu of course and one for the chassic.

When the unit is turned on both fans run during the bios but once WinXp starts up the fans go off. I have not stress the cpu any but even after a while the heatsink is still cool to the touch and the fan has not come on. The room temperature is about 65 F (basement).

Is it possible the unit is running so cool that it does not need the fan?

Then,

"but once WinXp starts up the fans go off."

Tells me the machine is, in fact, functioning.

Not sure about turning fans off but this system is known for changing fan speeds.

Can you see the fan running? Maybe it's running at a lower speed so it is not making much noise.
