Hey guys, I am here asking questions about graphics cards again. I havent been very happy with the performance of my FX5500 lately so I decided I would give overclocking a go and to my utter dissapointment I found that my card was the devil (64Bit). So I have decided to buy a new graphics card but I'm not sure which way I should go.. Here are my choices.

256Mb FX5500 (128Bit) $109
256Mb 9550 $105
256Mb 9600Pro TD $165
256Mb 9600XT $189

What card do you guys think? All prices are Australian currency so dont freak out.
I think the 9600XT looks good but I'm not sure wether it is worth the extra money over the 9600Pro. I would get the 128Bit FX5500 but apparently they arent that great and the same goes for the 9550. I was going to get a 6600GT or plain 6600 but I decided that my machine wouldent use it to its full capabilitys and it is just over my budget line. Thanks for any help.

Theres a link to some of the benchmarks of the 9600xt vs 9600pro, there really isn't teribly much difference (the test was done in 3dmark 03 not 05). To make the choices easier what are the clock speeds for these cards?

It kinda sucks being on a budget, but not all of us can afford the big ones I know, the 9600's score higher than my radeon x300 (PCI-E) so luckily I'll be upgrading to the x700 in a few days.

I just upgraded my 5200 so I have an idea of where you are coming from.

I got the 6600 GT, which is a great card for the cost to benefit ratio. Zipzoomfly.com has some models for $150 US.

Just my opinion...

At the prices listed converted into US dollars, the 9550 is the best deal with one caveat: it must have 128-bit memory interface. If it does, there's no way a 9600 Pro is worth $55 more, and there's a good chance you could overclock the card to run like a 9600 pro or xt. However, if it's a 64-bit interface to the memory, don't even consider it.

Between the pro and the XT, for that little money difference, might as well get the XT.

The FX5500 is not a very good card, and I wouldn't even consider it at all.

With your processor, I think the cards you're considering are mostly dead on; anything more powerful is overkill for your CPU.

"It happens."

As an owner of a Radeon 9550, I can recommend it as a good budget card. It's an underclocked 9600 so it can easily be cranked up to 9600 speed using ATiTool with no worries.

The 9600 Pro uses the RV350 graphics chip (same as the 9550 & 9600), but the 9600XT uses the RV360...but apparently the RV360 is just an overclocked RV350?

The 9550 is definitely a good budget card. I bought it and flash modded into a 9600 with core clocked at 398.25 and memory at 202.5. So far so good. I don't know if I can turn it into a "pro" though.
