Since no one has bothered to respond to your post and help you in this very difficult decision, I will take the initiative:

Let's start with the most important component that will drive your pc, which is the CPU ofcourse!! :)

AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 Dual-Core 2.6 GHz Socket 939, that is 1Mb L2 Cache On Each Core ofcourse.
2GB KINGSTON HYPERx DDR2 Memory.
Nvidia geforce 7900GTX or ATI equivalent (1900XTX).
A really good case and an expensive 700W/600W Power supply (Raidmax/Enermax)
Water-cooling, top-of-the line ASUS motherboard, Soundblaster XFI crystal sound decoder.
5.1/6.1/7.1 THX certified speakers
Miscallenious: SONY DVD-RW , gamer keyboard+mouse from a reputable company such as Logitech.
Oh and a 22" Flat-screen CRT from Viewsonic for the best graphical experience.

All in all if I ball-park it~$3000-$3500 M.S.R.P
(that is considering rebates and such)

Order your parts from newegg.com if in the US and from ncix.com if you live in canada

you can either build it yourself or pay for the custom build.

Have fun,:)
Sincerely,
Clark Evans.
P.S: Sweden rocks! SAAB is the best car! LOL

$3000 - $3500
I could do that, but how would my $300-$350 system upgrade compare:

pd 805 @ 4ghz oced on aquagate
1gb patriot signiture ddr400 pc3200 ram
X850 256mb gddr3

wouldn't this give me performance compareable to the xbox 360 at about the same price?

I wouldn't bother an upgrade. If you buy the computer I suggested it will last you for years and you will be able to play the hottest games for a long time with everything turned up!

I baught my car for Australian $500 : )

But doreyist3h, yes that sounds like a good idea the X850 is a nice card. Although look around before you buy.

Generaly gaming consoles have a great advantage because the software devlopers know exactly what the system its going to run on is and where its strengths and weaknesses are. Right now I can run games on my computer that I would say are compareable to the Xbox 360 and as you can see by my sig I definately dont have a top of the line system.

thanks mattwizz3, you seem to be the only sensible one on here, not telling me to blow 3-4grand on a computer. I especially appreciate you commenting on your pc being as good as xbox 360, because my upgrade will bring my computer to a hair faster than yours, and i would like to get xbox 360 graphics.
Have you played oblivion? what kind of settings do you have it on?

The XBOX360 and the PS3's visual capabilities havebeen surpased by the PC a LONG time ago. The XBOX360's GPU is a custom built processing unit by ATi that is equvilant in performance to a Radeon X800XT and shader support of today's GPU's. The PS3's GPU is a custom built GPU by nVidia that is just slightly better than two 6800GT's in SLI. But here's thing: PC video cards have surpased that type of performance a long time ago. A 7800GT outperforms two 6800 Ultras in many cases. A 7900GT outperforms a 7800GTX. The PS3 hasn't been released. The X800XT has been blown away for almost two years now. You tell me which platform has the edge.

And I'm not putting consoles down because I'm a fanboy. I'm stating that even though preliminary specs of the PS3 and Crapbox360 were astonishing, the PC will always prevail. Why? Because ALL console hardware is PC native.

No I havent played Oblivion on my computer, but I think I would probably have to set it to medium because my processor is a bit of a bottleneck. My system is the old Socket A type.

Oh and a P4 805 would put my processor to shame, so it would be a lot better than a hair faster, you could probably play Oblivion at high-ish settings.
