yawn, console gaming. Basically, all consoles are inferior computers, stuck in a time warp, never upgradable, built to sit under a television while computer technology passes it by, gathering dust as the next new fad console appears, wasting the owners money by mocking it...
"hee hee, you bought me three years ago, im a 3.2ghz machine, and look, youve just wasted more money on a slightly better version of me..."

Christ, i think i zoned out there!!!

My Rig:
1040Mhz Pentium 3 OC'd at 1.2Ghz
Aopen MX3WPRO-E mobo
Intel 810 chipset
Onboard Graphics Not sure how many MB
128mb RAM
120GB Maxtor Hard Drive

My Old Rig:
AMD K6 400Mhz

You know to be fair, ive had my PS2 since 1 year after it was launched and i can still buy games for it - about £30.

Ive had my pc about the same time and i cannot buy games that will run on it - the games still cost about £30.

so lets see, i can pretty much get the same choice of games on my ps2 as the pc - at the same price - except the only money ive spent on my ps2 was a new controller.

gaming PC's cost anywhere between £800 and several thousand pounds. consoles are about £200-300.
both can do more than play games.

and yes, you can build new computers in stages. and yes, pc games are usually better than their console counterparts - in particular strategy games. i still run a win95 box for Transport Tycoon Delux for that very reason.(anybody remember that? lol)

dont diss consoles too much, there biggest advantage is that they dont need constant work/upgrades to them - this costs money.

example - lets take halo. halo is a great game. now i can buy it for my xbox for £30/£35. same as the pc - but i would need to spend more money to get it to run on my pc. yes its a trade off, i probably dont get as much "performance" - but i have money left over to go to the pub afterwards lol

remember, most of the people who answer threads in these excellent forums have the computer knowledge to install and troubleshoot games, install windows, install ram, keep spyware at bay...all the essentials you need at this moment in time.

for people who dont have this knowledge a console is a perfect solution. they are simple 'plug&play' - plug the console in the wall and the tv, plug in your game and play.

incidentally - my mates and i recently found an old NES in a loft and spent the whole day playing Super Mario and Duck Hunt!!

spritelover - sorry but i dont think you'l find many people in this forum as it is a computer forum. try the console forums.

Console sellers now usually undersell the console/ hardware, then make back up the money when companies have to licence the name to release games. This next round-up of new consoles should be sold considerably less than if you built the same setup with your pc. (its hard to get Xbox 360 graphics on $299-399 budget). I'm not saying I perfer one over the other, I usually do most of my gaming on my pc but will probably buy a PS3 becasue lets face it the variety of PC games is probably about 10% of console game libraries.

3 Cores, coming to 9.6 Gigs! I'm getting me a Xbox360 =)

Xbox 360 is very powerful, and it is very difficult to make a game which uses all of its power. Halo3 would give it a good run. I'm always about having the best of the best as much as I can afford, and I Xbox360 is a good candidate. Call of Duty 2 and PGR3 are lookin' good.

I dont think I can code a game engine to use all that 9.6 gigs! But I'll work on it. ;)
