Download and install a hardware ID tool, or check your invoice if you have an OEM system, or pop the side cover if you are capable of doing that, you might as well be if you intend to replace your video card anyway.

You obviously don't have a clue. Before you get yourself all whacked out about what video card to buy, post your system specs...we need to know your motherboard make/model, the video slot you have available, your power supply wattage & amperage on the +12v rail, what CPU you're running, & what speed RAM.

There's no point even considering a high end card if you're running a 1.0GHz Duron, 250W PSU, & 512MB of PC100.

If you don't know these things or how to find out, I suggest you take your PC to someone who does.

holy crap is it that hard to point someone in the right direction if they need help its not that hard. All it takes is just a simple "hey whats your motherborad like" or "hey whats you computer's specs." its not that hard. or is the sad sad thought of still living with your parents clouding your judgements.

Grow up, alright? It's pretty sad when ppl insult each other on computer forums. Anyways snake, about your question, it would be very helpful if you posted your specs (incl. video card) but I can tell you a few things in the meantime. If you have anything slower than a 3.0GHZ Pentium (or AMD equivalent), or less than 1GB of PC3200 RAM then you really should focus on upgrading those first before you even consider a super-high end card like the X800 XT or Platinum Edition. If your rig is good and you have money to burn (as well as a PCI-E slot) then by all means go for any of the X800 models, but don't forget the mid-range cards. You'll know if the card you're going to buy is PCI-E if it has an X in the name (X600, X850, etc) and if it's just numbers (9800) it's AGP. 9800 Pros and 9700 XTs are extremely good cards to date, so don't overkill with a nuclear reactor of a video card if you don't need to.

You're the one that doesn't understand...we can't help you if you don't provide enough info! You're already double posting about the same topic, we're on response # 9 in this thread & you still haven't told us a thing about your PC other than what card your hoping to put in it. If you have an AGP slot, you can't install a PCI-express card. If you have a PCI-e slot, you can't install an AGP card. If you don't have either you're stuck getting a PCI card. And high end video cards have to plug into the power supply to get the added wattage that they need, so if your power supply is crap, you'll have to replace that too. If your system is low end, installing a high end card is a waste of time & money.

Let me try again. Please supply the following information:

- motherboard - make/model
- CPU - make/model speed & FSB
- RAM - amount & type (PC100, PC133, PC2100, PC2700, PC3200)
- current video card - make/model/RAM & whether it's PCI-e, AGP, PCI, or onboard
- power supply - total wattage & number of amps on the +12v rail

OK, saw your specs in the other post. Your machine is mediocre at best. Don't waste your money on a high end card, your system will choke it. Even the Radeon 9800PRO is debateable. I'd go with a Radeon 9600XT 128MB

Any AGP video card will work but like Jam said any card too powerful will just be pointless. The X700 Pro is a bit much for your system go with what Jam said and get a 9600 XT its a decent card and perfect for your system. You can also find it rather cheap, under a hundered on Newegg.
