CPU/Ram: p4 3.2/ 1gig

i just bought a new video card for my sony viao and its not working, its a ati x1300 512mb. i put into the pci express slot and turned on the comp. the fan on the video card turns on but my monitor stays black. is it just a faulty video card. or is it my comp?

did you plug the monitor into the video card?, you dont put the plug were you used to put it for onboard video, put it on the video card's vga/dvi output.
