It's interesting. According to the numbers, they're saying a 9800 Pro 128M would run at high quality with an Athlon 3200, which obviously contradicts the plan file I posted earlier.

However, what concerned me is while the average FPS readings were acceptable at 47fps, the low dip was 8. Comparing that to a 256M version of the same card, the avergae was 50fps, but most importantly, it dipped to only 20. I find dips come at the most inopportune times (firefights).

So I would say if you're running a 128M version of the 9800 Pro, somewhere between medium and high is where you want to run. I don't care to see 8fps in that type of game.

Anything under 30fps is a no go really. And yes that total contradicts what we both said earlier. But thats good news!

I wouldn't say it totally contradicts what we both said. 128M cards don't seem ready for High Quality, even when they're 9800 Pro's, although that's a judgement call.

I would think because they probably set the graphics settings lower. I would think that the resolotion the XBOX renders is standard TV res: 640x480. Who the f*** knows though. And remember that XBOX doesn't have all that other crap running at the same time too, OS's, antivirus, firewalls, kazaa, xxx toolbars, ill-legitimate copies of..., OH exuse me! ;-P

Keep in mind that as we say this card will do medium quality, that one high quality, this other one low quality, Doom 3 at ANY quality will look sweet.

Also, televisions suck for picture quality, so it would probably run in effect worse than low quality equivalent on a PC since you can't see good detail on the TV even if it's HDTV.

Xbox price = $150

PC price = $300 just for the video card that will run Doom 3 at that res with playable framerate.

Weren't Xbox's and PS2's based upon old PC technology when they were launched?? Then considering that the PS2 has been around for about three years i'm supprised that it and it's rival (the Xbox) can still run recent games ported from the PC at any standard.

I'm also suprised that Sony and Microsoft haven't done Xbox and PS2 compatible DVD-Rom drives for PC's, Especially considering they both have some experience in developing PC products. There's no way I'd buy a PS2 or Xbox, but I might pay £40 for a DVD-Rom drive which allowed me to play PS2 games on my PC

Anyone remember that PC that Sega built with a Megadrive (Genesis) slot on the front?
