Yes.
I wouldn't be surprised if you could run the game maxed out.

LOL, yes, you'll be able to play...but you won't even get above medium gfx settings if that 9800 pro is 128M.

All respect to you heropsycho, you give good advice usually, but that's muck.

Some people are like Slinkies?, not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...

you wouldn't need any upgrades for Doom 3 or HL2...btw how's FarCry on your system? can you play w/ all the "eye-candies" turned on? if you can then you'll be okay ;)

Aparently Doom 3 will be one of the 1st games to challenge the use of a 128mb card. Making the 256mb cards hav a better advantage. But u really hav to wait till it comes out and get some user response.

As for pcwhiz05 "wondering if my system is ideal for it."

lol.. Thats a joke right? Not even u can tell thats a kick-ass rig? Some ppl ey? :P

I think of it this way:
Half-life2 was supposed to be released last November.During that time the fastest gpu out on the markets was the 9800pro soon followed by the 9800xt.
If half-life2 was released on schedule,I doubt the guys at valve would have released a game that couldn't be supported by current gpu's at the time.
From what I have read,256 meg gpus are only worthwhile when overclocking and even then, the memory only has a minimal effect on game performance.

Psycho is actually right about this. My sources tell me DOOM3 will have an 'ultra' setting that only 512mb Graphics cards will be able to play comfortably (which will be out in Dec'04/05).

More info go: http://www.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=110592

Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb

Man, I'm so sorry for giving that advice...I don't know what I was thinking for saying that muck...I mean, really, relaying information STRAIGHT from id is just preposterous...WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?!?

From Robert Duffy, programmer from id in his .plan file...

"Medium quality uses compression for specular, diffuse, and normal maps. This still looks really really good but compressing the normal maps can produce a few artifacts especially on hard angled or round edges. This level gets us comfortably onto 128MB video cards."

Hooner, do your homework before you say what I said is "muck." ;-) So, Hooner, this is more evidence of what happens when you assume... :-D

I don't care how much horsepower a 9800 Pro has if it has 128M of RAM. If additional IQ settings add too many textures for a 128M card to handle, it's gonna be too slow for those IQ settings. Is this a bit alarming and disappointing? YES! I own a 128M Radeon 9800 Pro, but it's the truth from id themselves, so read it and weep, and don't shoot the messenger!

Thanks, StuB! :-)
