I've come across a few boards and people who told me they get better framerates in windows server 2003 in games by converting it to a workstation. Do you think that is true, if so I wonder why? The reason I am asking is because I game alot and have a free copy of windows server 2003 that one of my friends got free when he was in school(lucky lol). Anywho maybe I'll switch and install that windows server 2003. Should I?
I think that, for benchmarkers, there can be slight differences between operating systems. But any difference you will see for gaming is going to be so small it is almost invisible to you unless you use a benchmark too.
You should weigh up the effort it is to reinstall a system with a different OS with maybe 1 or 2 fps you might gain.
I would rather clean up my OS and cut down on things running in the background and try and gain a few fps that way :)
I switched to Server 2003 as a workstation from XP Pro and I certainly noticed a difference.
It isn't so much performance as compatibility. You still need good hardware to run a good game on top settings of course, but you'll probably find because Server doesn't have all the same kind of unnecessary s--- running in the background as XP, that driver conflicts and other software clashes don't occur much if at all, and games will thus tend to run smoother.
