Subject: Will a 6800 Ultra work with my PSU?
OS: XP
CPU/Ram: FX-55 2G OCZ EB
Comment:

I've decided to go Nvidia for my card, but I don't know if my PSU can handle the Ultra:

I have a Zalman ZM400B-APS with 18A on the +12VDC Rail

PSU-> http://www.zalmanusa.com/usa/product/view.asp?idx=76&code=015

CABLE DETAIL-> below

Also in the case will be:
FX-55
74G Raptor SATA
SBLive
2 IDE Hard Drives
1 CD Burner

Anone have any experience with this? I would hate to buy an Ultra online that I can't return for something else (common policy). I know people say buy a GT then OC, but I'd rather start with an Ultra and OC that ;) if possible

Thanks

NOOOOOOOOOOO its not fine!

When i first bought my 6800U i had a 425 watt Power supply from pc power and cooling and even that was not enough for my system. The problem was when i played 3d games the computer would shutdown\turn off so i replaced it with a OCZ 520 watt power supply and my shutdown problems went away. Nvidia recomends atleast 450watt psu. Granted, my system has 512 megs more ram and 2 roms more than yours but im willing to bet that the 400 watter still isnt enough for your system. my specs are below.

Abit Nf7-s Version 2.0 With Merlin Mod BIOS
AMD 2600 Moblie @ 2.585 GHZ. and 430 FSB
Zalman Cnps-7000 All Copper CPU Fan

OCZ 520 Watt PSU 33A/+12v - 3 Adjustable power rails
BFG 6800 Ultra OC @ 440 Mhz. core and 1.2 Ghz. Mem.
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live Platinum
Creative Labs 16X DVD-Rom
MSI 52x24x52 CDRW
Kenwood 72x CD-Rom

erhm... the PSU is a Zalman which makes excellent quality PSU's. Don't just look at the wattage, but also at the quality/brand. There are enough 520 Watt crap PSU's on the market. The one you have will do fine. I have a X800 Pro on that very same PSU and it works like a charm.

Intel P4 3.2E Ghz@ 3.8Ghz
Asus P4P800-E Deluxe
Kingston 2x512MB PC3200 D-Channel
Asus AX800 Pro
WD Caviar 160 GB
WD Raptor 37 GB
Zalman Reserator 1

you obviously know nothing about OCZ and pc power and cooling power supplies. You should look up info on these products before you you say they are crap.

OCZ are good, I have used them in the past.
At present I have 2 rigs with the Tagan 480Watt PSU.
Mmm, a close call both are good, but in my humble opinion the winner is the Tagan due to the 28Amps on the +12v rail. Plenty of raw power.

Go for either, your card will run well.

AMD64Bit 3200+ "Clawhammer" - WinXP Pro.
Nvidia:6800GT
1024MB 400MHz RAM
Tagan 480Watt PSU: 28Amps on +12volt rail.
MSI K8T Neo FIS2R M/Board
