Why is my ping so high?

I play a soccer game online which is affected by high ping (I get around 200 during the day GMT and usually around 80 a bit later i.e. 10pm). Will buying a new computer help, or a new internet connection or what? Also would Vista be better than XP?

Vista is NOT better than XP & I doubt you need a new computer, then again, you didn't bother to list the specs. The problem could be on your end or the game server.
