So i have half-life 2, the farcry demo, and the doom 3 demo, all running on a top-of-the-line Geforce 4 mx440 se, all the games look crappy, well i can't get all the effects (the water sucks, the shadows suck, low poly models etc.) But in the DOOM3 demo i can get all the DX9.0 effects (bumpmaps, reflective surfaces, dynamic shadows etc.) ok so it still runs like crap, but why do i get all the effects here, but not in the other demos, why is this?

You say you can't 'get' them, but are you just running the game with its default settings or have you actually looked at the graphics options in the game menu?

ive looked but everything still looks like crap.

Are you serious?? That card is a piece of crap & it does NOT support DX9...as a matter of fact, it probably doesn't even support DX8. The MX440 is just a hopped up GF2 & only supports DX7 - and being that it's an SE model, it's as low performance as the MX440 lineup gets.
Get a decent video card.
Asus A7N8X-X
1800+ @ 8 x 210MHz
768MB PC3200
Asus A9550 128MB/128-bit
Gamer Edition
WinME/WinXP Pro

Also keep in mind Doom 3 is OpenGL, NOT DirectX, so that would explain the gfx quality discrepency between Doom 3 and the other games.
You need a new card, dude, sorry to say.

hey clam down people ill have u know im the proud owner of a GeForce 4 MX440 !! YAY! for me!! (i also have the GeForce FX 5600 XT) th g4 runs any game including UT 2004 at very good quality.. and im sure i remember installing dx9 for it.. it may be an old card but it can handle some very good games.

The card, while you may be able to install DX9, doesn't support DX9 effects, make sure you understand that. It doesn't support DX8 effects either.
Many new games do not support the GF4 440MX, just FYI because it doesn't have pixel shading. Many new games flat out state it will NOT run with the card, such as Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault.
So it won't run any game at very good quality like you're claiming, and it won't run some games, period! BTW, I don't define very good quality running HL2 in anything but DirectX 9 mode.
