I'm upgrading to Radeon 9000 which I got for XMAS. Mobo has AGP slot supporting 4X AGP cards. Instructions say to download the latest driver. Driver Detective found update which is a S3 Graphics driver with version 13.94.12. When I go to the download page the only versions are 13.94.07. Further the my VIA chipset is a VT8375 and the above version is a VT8372. I'm confused and should I just stay with my old driver?

Hi Uppie1.

When the instructions say to download the latest video driver, they mean for the new card you are installing.

So you would go to ATI's site and get the newest Radeon driver.

The S3 driver is for the video you already have in your system.

http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/winxp/radeonwdm-xp.html?type=xp&prodType=graphic&prod=productsXPdriver&submit.x=20&submit.y=10

Follow the instructions for installing the Radeon driver. ATI driver software is picky about the installation procedure. Read and print out the installation tips section.

Also make sure your computer has Windows XP service pack 1 or higher installed. There is a link on the ATI site to get it if you don't.

You will have to remove your previous video driver before installing the ATI driver.

Also you may have to disable onboard video if that is what the S3 graphics is since Windows will attempt to reinstall it if you don't disable it.

Take care,

Linda

S3 makes me think it's "onboard" or "integrated" crap. As mentioned above, you'll have to disable that before installing the new card. On most new computers, inserting a card into the AGP slot will automatically switch off the Onboard. Otherwise, there may be a setting in the BIOS or on the motherboard to disable.

When you buy the new Radeon card, it should come with the drivers on a CD. Use the CD to install, then look for updates online if you want. That's just me...

Congrats on the new card,
Bob
