ok i know most of you are tired of my questions, but i was looking in past posts about the 6600gt. I read many complaints about the agp version. Im guessing teh pci-e is better? Well my main question is which manufacturer is best for this card, for example which has good overclocking potential, so on and so forth.
sorry for another post, they must be getting redundent XD

I was liking the leadtek, but then i noticed it had a tiny cooling fan, compared to others. Will this make a big difference if it is OCed? Or since the leadtek seems to be the best performing card, should i just get a new fan for it?

Generally, there isn't much difference between manufacturers. Sometimes, some cards may have a higher clock speed, but often, the difference isn't that huge. Another make worth considering would be BFG, they're overclocked from factory and have a lifetime warranty. The risks with buying the cheapest card and overclocking it yourself are that you run the risk of damaging the card if you don't know what you are doing and you also void the waranty. The price difference between the slowest and fastest card based on a particular chipset aren't very much, so you may as well get the fastest stock card you can if it really bothers you.
As for AGP vs PCI-e, AGP is 8X and PCI-e is 16X, however, most games don't even get the most potential out of AGP yet, so the difference in performance at the moment is nil. If you are building a new system, you may as well buy a PCI-e motherboard and graphics card. PCI-e gpahics cards are slightly cheaper than AGP and AGP will eventually be phased out, so getting on the PCi-e route would be a wise move if you are building a new system.
Hope this helps.

Oh, and don't be worried about asking "too many questions" If you need to ask something, post it. If people don't want to answer it, fine. That's up to them, they don't have an obligation to answer your question if they don't want to. If they want to answer your question, then they will.
If you want to build your own computer, that's ok, it's your decision. (Personally I don't think your quite ready yet either) but if you never do it, you'll never learn about it. Books (to a small extent), evening classes or learing off someone you know are probably the better than asking on a forum for specific instructions, but by all means ask if there's something you need clearing up, just make sure your questions are to the point and not too open ended, that way, you'll find the answers you need.
Good Luck

I've been looking at 6600GT's too...not too seriously as I'm not ready to buy yet.
I've found the bundled software differs, included cables differ, and some even come overclocked from the manufacturer.
Look for comparison reviews on the net. Tom's Hardware often compares several different manufacturers' cards in one article.
As stated above, you'll generally find about the same card in any box but you can get a little more bang for your buck by comparison shopping.

Surely it's time for the Nvidia 7-series already? I think i'll wait til then and just flog my Geforce4 for everything it's worth or until it gives up on me.
I originally had a Geforce2 MX, I skipped the Geforce3 series, bought a Geforce4, Skipped the FX series... So going by that pattern, I should buy a 6-series next...

MSI, eVGA, XFX are good versions. XFX has a new fan that is a bit quiter than the older version. AGP version are just as good as the PCIe verions.

No news on the 7-series yet, I don't think it's anywhere near production at the moment, just that we've had the 6-series for almost a year now, so i'm just speculating.

Really a new gen 7 series or revamped 6600GT but with 256 bit version would be perfect for alot of people. the 128 version isn't great for MMORPG types of games like WoW.

Yeah, it will on a higher end sytem. If you run anything lower than an A64 3200+ it drops to much less FPS depending on the res you play at. For instance on an Athlon XP3200 (K7) WoW will do only 48-49 FSP @ a res of 'only' 1024x768. Hard to believe but it's true - the 'scaling' of the CPU mixed with the GPU is inportant in that paticular game. Mine does 50 FPS @ 1600x1200 (specs in sig) but if i put the same card on an XP3200 (K7) it would drop dramatically. So essentially '43 fps' really does depend on the CPU you are coupling a 6600GT with.

Perfect example is 60 FSP steady with a 6600GT @ 1024x768 (MD) @ AMD Athlon 64 4000+ CPU, MSI K8T Neo 2 Motherboard, 1GB (512MB x 2) Samsung PC3200. Drop that same card on an A64 3200+ and you get 53. Drop that same card in an XP3000 @ 333 FSB and you get 43. But who wants to play @ 1024x768? Not me, because the difference between 1024x768 an 1280x1024 is very dramatic imo. 1280x1024 should be 'the' target res for any MMORPG gamer - meaning even if you have an older processor it's not really worth it IMO to get a 6600GT and only gain the ability to go 1024x768 (which is a relatively low resolution) when you can get a 6800NU and REALlY play the game at at least 1280x1024 with high detail (if you have no lower than an XP3000).
Moreover, a 256 bit card will also load textures better and most especially when you have lots of moving items on your screen much faster, and better overall. So in a nutshell a 256 bit 6800NU it GT is much better for the MMORPG (newer ones like WoW or EQ2). 6600Gt doesn't do well in EQ2 at all but does do WoW
ok ... again depending on the processor. Unless you reall like being stuck @ 1024x768.
