You need to install Windows Vista. DX10 is not compatible with WinXP/Media Center. And since you're asking in the gaming forum, let me add that the 8500GT is not a decent gaming card. Check the bottom of this list:
Its like DirectX 9, 9b and 9c, nothing to throw away your DirectX 10 card out for. DirectX 10.1 is basicly making things that were optional in DirectX 10 cards a standard for all DriectX 10.1 cards. This will make it easier for gaming developers to write code for since every DirectX 10.1 card will have to meet the same standard specs.
Which is also nice about DirectX 10.1 coming out is that it's going to drive down the cost of highend DirectX 10 graphics cards down to mid range DirectX 10 graphic card prices.
