I am after a high performace graphics card to play latest games on my pc, currently using intergrated hd 4000 on a gigabyte board.
But its not up to playing even less graphic orientated modern games.

I am thinking either a HD 5770 or HD 4870 for around £130 does any one know when the latest 5870 and 5850 models come down in price?

It depends on what you consider affordable. There are dozens of other cards you can get in the meantime...no one is telling you to stick with the onboard graphics.

"its an 800w psu but its a cheapo 1 should ave plenty of HP"

Cheapo power supplies are cheap for a reason & the fact that it's rated at 800W means nothing...amperage on the +12v rail is the important spec. Unfortunately, not all manufacturers are truthful with their numbers, that's why you should stick to reliable brand names.
