You fail to list the motherboard, but anyhow, the A64 3700+ is the highest you can go on the 754 socket.

"the A64 3700+ is the highest you can go on the 754"

But it's hardly worth what you would have to pay for it. The biggest drawback to your Sempron is it's 128k L2 cache, but with the right board, you should have no problem overclocking it from 1.8GHz (9 x 200MHz) to 2.25GHz (9 x 250MHz).

What is the make/model of your board??

You can still find the A64 3000+ (2.0GHz) or A64 3200+ (2.2GHz) Venice for about $30. They have 512k L2 cache & will easily overclock to 2.5GHz or 2.75GHz. Here's a 3200+ Venice for $26.50...it's currently out of stock but you can sign up for the "Restock Alert":

But like I said in your other post, a CPU upgrade isn't gonna make up for your crappy video card.

I'm still runing two S754 systems myself although I'm gearing up for an AM2 build. Anyhow, both systems have an A64 3000+ Venice & both are overclocked to 2.5GHz. If the 3200+ becomes available again for $26.50, I'm gonna grab one. If you post the make/model of your board, I'll see if I can dig up the manual & recommend some overclock settings for your Sempron. How can you not know what board you have??

Download CPU-Z v1.44, unzip it & click on CPUZ.exe. Then click on the Mainboard tab & see if your board is properly recognized. Post back with that info.

Download CPU-Z v1.44

I just reviewed your other thread & it is quite clear you are currently faced with the far too common decisive dilemma in computing .... LOL

If you ask me, you are far better off selling this machine & putting the proceeds from the sale toward a better rounded gaming rig.

Unfortunately, it's not worth all that much. You'd probably get more by parting it out rather than selling it as a complete unit. This whole discussion would be easier if we knew which motherboard you have.

Your board has a PCI-e slot, so that's a plus & you have 2GB RAM. I still think you can ride it out a while longer, but it's your call. Sell the X1300Pro & replace it with the 8600GT...you'll definitely see an improvement in gaming. The X1300Pro is probably worth about $30-40 used, so that's enough to finance a CPU upgrade to an A64 3200+. Then sell the Sempron for $20.

Here's a couple of S754 3200+ Venice CPUs on eBay for about $40 shipped:
