i got a new Mother board that is sli for dual video cards so what some good sli ready cards not a 7900

SLI is a technology from Nvidia so you are either going to have to look at a card below the 7900 series.

First off, be aware that in most cases one good card beats two mediocre cards in SLI.
That said, below a 7900, about the only other good choice would be the 7600.
"Milk was a bad choice!"

me thinks chris doth protest too much.
hint hint. 7900 hint good card hint hint
o'r the kings rump pick me up at my place

I think the point here is for the money a 7900GT is a great card.
Why would you get a 6800GT or GS now and add a second one later for SLI when a single 7900GT beats either in SLI.
"Milk was a bad choice!"

SLI is only good if you use it properly. For example, buy a new 7900GT now for $300. Wait about 2 years, buy another one for like $100 and get an immense upgrade! That is, SLI is a project that you need to work up to.
Starting with an SLI system is either foolish with midrange cards because you can spend less money and get a better single card, or even more foolish if you get two bleeding-edge cards and then find out your CPU or mobo are bottlenecking you. Do it right and you'll be happy. Do it wrong and you'll be poor.

He/she obviously does not want a 7900. That is why I said 6800 its a personal taste I run one and have no problems at all

That's great except for one problem:
In two years time, most likely a $150 card would beat two 7900GT's substantially. And there's the big if: will you be able to find a 7900GT by then?

And I was pointing out to him that an SLI upgrade path is often not cost effective in price/performance. Go through the threads in this forum, and you'll see plenty of people who simply do not understand that SLI frequently doesn't make sense to use in price/performance. The vast majority of the time, you get a better bang for your buck with a single card solution, and the primary use of SLI is get performance above what the top card out there is and to get that performance almost if not immediately.
Also, it should be pointed out that the 7600GT is a better card than the 6800 series cards, so even if he's not gonna go 7900GT, he still shouldn't go with a 6800 series card.

maybe so but as you will see i have said its a personal taste he/she wanted a few good cards and i find the 6800 a good card without question he/she has asked for an opinion and i gave it the 7600 is most likely a better card but i have not used one so cant comment on it. I do know though I wont buy a 7900 seen to many problems (maybe those people were just unlucky because there is a lot out there not having problems)
basically we were asked a question so i answered

Not to mention the fact that in 2-3 years time the slight performance boost by buying a second card will be meaningless as graphics processors and techniques advance (ie DirectX 10 / 11, new shader models etc). It would be like running two Gefore 4 TI 's now, yeah might have a slight speed increase over a mid-low range card of todays standards but it still wont beat features or compatibility of anything relatively new.
The way I look at SLI is that it is for HARDcore gamers, to have two knockdown cards for that real boost in performance. Not as a budget tactic, as it just wont work that way.
So buy your two 7600gt's and waste your money if that makes you happy, I would definetly rather a single 7900 to that any day.
