I don't game, but back in the day, I used to play D&D. Not online, but out of the books. I'm not too far out of date. I was playing 3rd Edition in 2003. Anyway, my question is this. I like role playing games, I am familiar with the character abilities, weaponry, etc. of the Forgotten Realms type campaigns of D&D. I have seen Baldur's Gate (though I've never played it) and it's alright. Is there a PC game set up the same way, but a bit more realistic?

Somebody said that I might like Warcrafter,(not sure if that's the name, something like that.)

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Balder's Gate (and its expansion) and Baldur's Gate 2 are hands down the best RPGs I've ever played (and I have a collection of just under 150 games). Warcraft(the whole series) is actually an RTS game and is a lot like Starcraft (which is on the top of my favorite RTS games). I haven't played Warcraft as much as Starcraft but it's definitely still a good game. As for some other games: Neverwinter Nights (and expansion), Morrowind (the whole series), and Icewind Dale (the series). These games are a lot like BG and aren't quite as good (in my opinion) but still worth a shot.

Also I just remembered another of my favorite games of all time: Diablo. It is a 2 game series with an expansion pack and, even though I haven't played it in a long time, whenever I think about it I just smile. It's that good.

Hope this helps.

Hi Judy
Warcraft is IMO a very nice game, but only Warcraft III can be played without problems from WinXP. The older versions are DOS games.

Have you tried Never Winter Nights?

No, I've seen Never Winter Nights, but have been unable to find it. I've seen the book and it seemed to me very much like Forgotten Realms.

gometro33:

What is it about BG that makes it superior to NWN, Morrowind or Icewind Dale?

Thanks to you both.

To be honest, I can't really put a finger on ONE specific thing. The feel of the game is different, there is more actual gameplay, and the list goes on. They are pretty different games and I just like BG more. Then again, whenever a thread like this comes up in any forum, it is mostly BG that people like.

I'm no RPG player, but there will be a D&D PC game coming out soon. I just saw a thing about it in PC GAMER magazine.
