I've got an Amilo D8830 laptop, 2,66 GHz/512 RAM, ATi Mobility Radeon 9000 graphics (64 Mb memory) and an integrated VIA AC'97 sound card.

The sound card works perfectly expect with games (like Pro Evolution Soccer 3, Nascar Racing 2003 etc.). Occasionally during a game my computer freezes/slows down for about half a second at the exact moment an individual sound is produced (for instance when a referee blows the whistle). This happens once every few minutes, so it's annoying enough.

I've got the latest drivers and all, I've tweaked my OS for gaming and no extra programs are running on the background. The games run very smoothly apart from the aforementioned problem.

I've posted to other forums and no-one seems to have a clue (including other Amilo D8830 owners who have encountered no problems with gaming whatsoever).

What could be causing this? Do I need an external sound card to fix this???
