Subject: Weird, I need a Pro, LOW FPS OS: XPCPU/Ram: AMD XP 2000 |
Comment: Ok this is very strange, I have tried experimenting to solve the problem since I know a good deal about computers, but this has me stumped. I have a 8X Geforce 5700 with 256MB DDR RAM Video Card brand new with Windows XP PC4100 DDR RAM and a AMD XP 2000 CPU. Ok let me back up, I before I was using the Geforce4MX 440, and when I updated the Nvidia Drivers, my framerate is horrible! I mean really bad, looks like 10 FPS. This problem is only on XP, when I was using Wins 2000 I had no problems. Then I thought perhaps it was the card so I purchased the Geforce 5700 Card but still the same problem. For some odd reason the Nvidia Drivers make the games look like 10 FPS. I tried adjusting the settings to give the best performance, turned off video syncing, lowering the settings and still frames are totally awful, this doesnt look like normal lag it looks like some type of compatability issue or something. When I used the dafult Winx XP drivers with the Geforce4 MX440 the games ran smooth. With the Geforce 5900 I cannot use default drivers since AGP texture accelration doesnt work. Is there anything that I can do? Thanks

Reply: (edit)Sounds like a compatiblity issue. Try installing the latest drivers for your motherboard, and install the latest Service Pack in Windows Update. Pentium 4 2.6ghz eVGA Geforce FX 5900 SE SB Audigy LS 512mb DDR400 3dmark03 : 6022

Reply: (edit)Have you made sure that everything is where it needs to be in the bios? I know on my board a7n8x deluxe that the default video was set on pci instead of agp. Also you may want to see if there is a bios update for your board. Btw what games are you having problems with? XP PRO SP1,AMD ATHLON XP 3200+,1 gig of corsair xms 3200, Ati Radeon 9800 pro

Reply: (edit)Hello, I am having problems with Quake III Arena. I am afraid of updating the BIOS, I did that on 3 motherboards and they never worked again. The weird this is that I followed the instructions exactly the way it explains it everytime too.
