i dont have a clue waht the best dual core processor is on the market. okay well my situation is that im lookin forward to building a new gaming rig better than the one i have listed below and im gonna make it PCI express based and im gonna get one of those flashy 7800GT cards everybody keeps talkin about but im totally stuck on waht kind of processor i want to get and the best mobo for hardcore gaming. cause i totally dont want to get another P4 640 intel processor the one i have isnt bad its just i like variety and i honestly dont care to much about brand names just the fact that its gonna perform well. im gonna be moving to virginya and im guranteed 3 diffrent jobs makin $15.00 bucks an hour i know this is totally irellavant but money is not the issue. im just totally stuck on waht i should purchase sure i could always take a guess and get stuff but id rather have an informed non biased opion on waht i should get. i know i want somethin with and nforce4 chipset ive been told its the best chipset for gaming. okay anyways hopin maybe some pepole like jam or herosphyco can help me out on waht exactly i should purchase cause ill take it seriously so only imformed opions please. :-) thanks again.

I just bought a new gaming rig a couple weeks back myself and totally didn't bother with the dual core CPU's. In all honesty, it won't help your gaming one bit. Also, there's really nothing out there that takes advantage of dual core technology at this point in time so in my estimation, it wasn't worth it to spend the extra $. I saved a few bucks, bought an AMD 64 4000+ CPU and the mobo I have is able to be upgraded to the AMD dual core should I ever decide to go that way.
If you're into overclocking (I'm not) you could save a few more $'s and go with an AMD 64 3700+ CPU or one of the other models out there.

AMD makes the best dual core CPU's.
With that said, get an X2 with 1M of cache per core, like the X2 4400.

Since you like spending money so much, go ahead and get an SLI NForce4 motherboard.
Go DFI for the brand of motherboard. LANParty series rocks for overclocking and advanced tweaking.
P.S. You do realize a single core CPU such as the Athlon 64 San Diego 3700 with 2x 7800GT's in SLI would outperform a system with 1x 7800GT and a dual core CPU in advanced games, right?
P.P.S. Both dual core and SLI are wastes of money for anyone reading this and looking for the best value for their money. I say this to avoid the inevitable debate that always seems to explode in these threads.

well thanks for the input that sounds good to me. i herd that nforce sli works best with amd. i really aprecite you guys pointiong a finger in the right direction. so i should get the amd processor that herospycho recomends with a nforce sli chipset... waht type of ram should i get i want to have a 1 gig maybe 2 depending on how my eperiances and the job goes over their. but wahts recomended for an nforce sli mobo. thats runing a 7800GT....
PS: im really not intrested in buying 2 7800gt video cards but if i did does that mean the motherboard with the nforce sli chipset will support the 2 7800gt cards....i know of course i have to have 2 X16 slots i know that :-)

All other things being equal, there is no performance difference between a a board based on the nForce4 SLi chipset & one based on the nForce4 Ultra. So if you have no intention of ever running two cards in SLi, save yourself a few bucks & get a non-SLi nForce4 Ultra board.

"In all honesty, it won't help your gaming one bit."
While I don't think it's worth the money, that's not true. Some games do take advantage of it.
Can't seem to find the benchmarks I saw on this a few weeks ago...I'll post back when I find them.

If you look at the benchmarks in this article on Tom's hardware guide (The Mother of All CPU Charts 2005/2006) you will see that for all of the gaming benchmarks the single core processors outperformed the dual core processors. The best procs for gaming are the FX series, but they are horrendously expensive. The 4000+ (single core) is the best one you can get for around $300.

hmm i know its kind of a tough call to make i want dual core cause it will future proof me for the technology for the road ahead cause im gonna get the
1.AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core Processor
Model ADA4400CDBOX - Retail,$497.00I looked at the reviews on newegg.com and theirs no way on earth a singal core processor can run farcry and 3 3d aplications plus windows media player without lag all at once. i want dual core so case closed lol.
2. waht about this powersupply its nvidia certified for sli hook ups.
PC Power & Cooling TURBO-COOL 850 SSI T85SSI SLI, EPS12V,
SSI 850W Power Supply 90 - 264V UL/ ULC/ CE/ TUV - Retail
Retail,$499.00im still undecided on waht motherboard to get anybody with a definate answer cause i want Nforce4 chipset but the DFI boards pepole say the chipset fan is way to close to the video card and that the board is extremly technical and picky with ram eaither a DFI or Gigabyte board is waht im thinkin :-)
