After re-installing the Operating system in my son's computer he is having a problem with playing his Dawn of War games. He is receiving a spooge driver error and after some research I'm told this error is a result of a video card incompatibility. It seems I have lost his video card - is that possible?

When I run the DXDIAG it states: "Display Tab 1: The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer. Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.
Sound Tab 1: No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer." and no display divice is listed.

He was able to play this game before the re-install, so what did I do and how can I fix it???
Thanks!!!

Of course he was, that's because all the proper device drivers were preinstalled by Gateway. Obviously you didn't install the drivers after reinstalling the OS, if you had, you wouldn't be getting the messages about a "generic video driver" & "you should install a sound driver".

Most likely, you need the motherboard chipset drivers, video drivers, sound drivers & network drivers...there may be others too. These drivers are probably on a separate driver CD, or you can download them from either the Gateway website or the individual hardware manufacturer's websites.

Here's a link to the Gateway GT5268E support page, but it appears the drivers are for Vista, not XP Media Center:

jam -

Well, it wasn't really obvious to me - otherwise I wouldn't have asked the question :)

Your link to Gateway got me where I needed to be and the problem is solved!!!

Thank you VERY much!! I have one very happy son upstairs playing DOW (and who will now be extra careful of the Mcafee warnings so as to not allow harmful gunk into his computer again!!)

Thanks again,

Stephaninie
