First thing you must know is that i have Radeon 9800pro, stocked non over clocked
Ok, just a simple question that i have to ask. At the beginning of last week, when i would turn on my computer it would say that the power cable that came with my card was not plugged in. I tried a couple of times and it still said that same things.
So i opened up my computer and just reseated the power cable and everything worked just fine. Well, the next day i got the exact same thing when i went to power on the machine, except this time when i reseated it and kept trying it would just say that my power cable was not plugged in.
Out of curiousity i pulled the the power cable from the card and computer and noticed something very interesting. On the end that was plugged into my 9800, i saw that one of the pins was completely fired (i know that becasue it was brown in color, completely brown).
So i guess my question is this: How did it become like that?? Was it not seated right in the first place?? Was it the age of the card (only 1yr old)?? Or is there something bigger going on here??
Any inputs, thoughts, or suggestions are welcome. I thank you for your time.

All I can say, is that my life is pretty plain, you may not like my point of views, but that’s ok

Is it blackened on the connector on the card, or the additional splitter cable they provided? If the splitter cable, just replace it.
Lots of things can cause that. Could be your power supply, a power surge, slightly bad from the get go and exacerbated with use, bad card,
"President Bush is doing everything he can to lower gas prices, including...making the oil companies so rich that maybe they'll get sick of money."

I did replace the splitter and thank god that it was only on there. The card seemes to be working fine now and everything, just mainly curious on why and/or how something like that may have come about.
I heard from a friend of mine that i should not use a power cord extension from the HDD because the HDD needs the power?? Is that true?? Anyone know??

There is a danger from plugging too many things into the same power string from the PSU. Just a hard drive and the card should not be an issue; video card, hard drive, CD, floppy all on the same lead? Yeah, you shouldn't do that. ;-)
Bottom line is try to spread your devices over your power leads when you can.
Why that cable went out like that? I bet it was a minor imperfection of the cable that again was made worse over use.

you should never use those splitters if you don't have to. i've heard so many bad things aobut those splitter cables. i have my 6200 pluged up with my hdd and floppy. it has enough power, if not more than enough. but i also have a 430 watt psu.
