Reply: (edit)"AMD athlon 3500+ this is canadian prices by the way its about a hundered or more than american pricing." Get the 3000 or 3200, as you won't see much difference in performance between them and the 3500. If you want higher performance, get the 3700 since it has 1M of cache. That will make a noticeable difference. Based on the above pricing, the 6800GT at $400 would be the best bang for the buck in NVidia. In ATI, the X800GT. I would personally go with the 6800GT out of those. It does surpass the comparable ATI priced cards, the X800XL, in performance. Please help survivors of Hurricane Katrina.www.redcross.org

Reply: (edit)You've gotta nail the system down before selecting a video card. I don't recommend the A64 3500+...go with either the 3000+ or 3200+ Venice, or the 3700+ San Diego. As for the motherboard, the make/model/chipset are very important...a crappy board makes for a crappy system. And if you install a single 1GB stick of RAM, you won't be able to run dual channel mode...get either 2 x 512MB or 2 x 1GB. Having a power supply capable of handling the load is very important as well. When it comes to PSUs, you get what you pay for...make sure to get a decent brand name with plenty of amperage on the +12v rail...plan on spending about $75 (CDN) for a good one. R.I.P. Reply: (edit)Also, make sure you get 2 sticks of memory. If you're wanting a gig, get 2x512M. Or get 2x1024 for two gigs. This will enable the dual channel memory architecture. In motherboards, make sure it's an NForce4 Ultra or SLI chipset based board. DFI is the best quality and best overclocking brand right now. Please help survivors of Hurricane Katrina.www.redcross.org

Reply: (edit)The 6800GT will play all those games wonderfully with either the 3000 or 3700. Personally, I'd get a 3000 and wait for the X2 dual core CPU's to become cheaper and upgrade to those when the price is right. With an Nforce 4 ultra chipset board, you have that flexibility. Reply: (edit)"is the 2700+ amd athlon compatiable with that mobo" No, it's uses a different socket "ABIT AV8 8xAGP uGuru S939...is this a good enough mobo?" I thought you wanted a PCI-Express video card, not AGP? Get a board based on the nForce4 Ultra chipset, not the VIA chipset. Look at the DFI Infinity or DFI LANparty series. R.I.P. Reply: (edit)Just to throw a wrench in with the video card... Zipzoomfly has the EVGA 7800GT for $319.00, it is 299.00 after rebate (yes, hero, I am taking a rebate!) :P I believe that tigerdirect still has a combo for $399.00 which includes the same video card above and an EVGA mobo. Zipzoomfly also has an OEM BFG 7800GT for $329.00. Of course those are all american prices. home page was hijacked byhttp://magicsearch.try this, if you have any backupregistry data files, merge them in to current , or if you have several , i did. i merged about 5 or six. rebboot. it has been

Reply: (edit)" anyways will a 3000+ athlon 64 bottleneck it?" A bit, but you could easily overclock the 3000 so it's not. :-) These Venice cored Athlon 64's overclock like mad rather easily. I got my 3000 to 250HTT @ 2.5GHz. (Default is 200 @ 1.8GHz). If you want to try overclocking, get a DFI NForce 4 ultra board! Please help survivors of Hurricane Katrina.www.redcross.org

Reply: (edit)My Athlon 64 3000 ran 28C not overclocked. Going from 1.8GHz to 2.5GHz, my temps went to 31C. This is with stock cooling! Dangerzone for CPU's is 60C. Trust me, you're fine. :-) Get a bigger hard drive! Look closely at the prices. I bet you spend around $60 canadian to quadruple your hard drive space. Also, make sure it's SATA 2.0.
