Or should i get a 6600 ?

I want to upgrade my cpu but i dont have the money
I would like to play bf2 on high settings, but i dont want to spend over 250 on a graphics card
I dont know if my p4 2.4 can handle it.

The 6800LE is a good choice, too.

May i Ask why you recommend that card?

the 9800 and 6800 *both 256mb* are both in my price range
do you think they will not work as good as the 6600 with 128?

You have a 2.4GHz P4. That's not powerful enough to see a difference between the 6600GT or 6800LE and those higher end cards. In fact, the 6600GT or 6800LE are probably going to run faster than the 9800XT if anything despite having half the memory because the GPU's are better.

The 6800 is a significantly better card than the rest, but again, on your machine, you won't see the difference due to lack of CPU speed.

I understand your point, what would i have to upgrade to? what if i upgraded to a 2.8ghz or 3.0ghz.. then would the better video card be worth it?

Not by much. You'd need to jump to the Athlon 64's or the newer P4's before you'd see your money's worth. Before you buy a video card, decide if you want to jump to a new motherboard and CPU, too. If that's the case, no reason to not go PCI-e.

I dont really have money to spend 400 dollars on a new cpu and motherboard and another 250 on a video card.. i think ill just buy the video card and pray to get medium settings
and not all low settings like im getting now..

Thanks to all your advice

Then don't even spend $250. $140 is more than sufficient.

Hi Daniel,

Just in case you didn't go for it yet, I just wanted to say that I'm running BF2 on highest settings in my system. I don't have experience with P4 CPUs, but my AMD (see below) runs at 2,4 GHz too, with a Gainward GeForce 6800 GT 256MB Golden Sample. I have a nice ram too, but I don't really know how much that improves the overall experience.

If that card is within your price range, get it and you won't regret...

Cheers!

Just for the sake of it, check for system compatibility (CPU x graphic card x motherboard) and visit a lot of gaming forums. If you can, make a Aquamark3 benchmark test on your present configuration, submit it to their site and compare it with the desired configuration on their website. It's free and can be downloaded at http://www.aquamark3.com. Because I configure my system myself, I like to spend some quality time in different forums, reading reviews and comments about parts I wonder if I should buy. When money is tight, there's no other way to go...

Many people say that the geforce4 mx series does not have pixel shader support at all. But Discovered that it does. I have a Geforce4 mx4000 128mb card and it supported pixel shading in the following games. Call of Duty, Doom3, Juiced, Max Payne2, NFS underground 1 and 2, POP warrior within. But no luck with battlefield 2. All you geforce mx users hold on tight somebody wil figure something out. Why did my card do pixel shader v1.4?

Daywalker.
