Just wanted some opinions on which card would be better to get. Tigerdirect.com has the XFX 6600GT PCIE card for $110(after rebate), and also has the eVGA 6800XT for $124(after rebate). Which would be the better one to get? Or does anyone have either of these cards? My current 6600 is giving me trouble and I want a new card, also need a new sound card. So any ideas would be great on that, too. Thanks!

If you want to have more performance leap, I suggest you get the 6800GS.. Back to ur question... 6800XT seems to be a better choice...
6600 spec
8pipeline
300Mhz core ~ 2.4G fillrate
550Mhz 128bit Memory ~ 8.8GB/sec6600GT spec
8pipeline
500Mhz core ~ 4Gb fillrate
1000Mhz 128bit memory ~ 16GB/sec6800 spec
12pipline
350Mhz core ~ 4.2G fillrate
600Mhz 256bit memory ~19.2/secHowever, there is special thing you can do the 6800 is to unlock additional 4 pipeline resulting... ~5.6G fillrate... By comparing the 6800 to 6600GT, the fillrate + memory bandwidth is > than 6600GT... So 6800 is a better choice to get... For $14 more, 6800 is definately a better choice...
Also your 6600 is giving you trouble, like what kind? Can you describe it?

Seems to lock up sometimes. NHL 2006 and Wolfenstein Enemy Territory are the only games i play really. It can happen 5min or 30min into playing. The game will just freeze, and sound gets stuck too. Sometimes it will unfreeze, other times it will just lock up and restart automatically. I uninstalled the card and used the onboard ati x200 graphics and never had that problem. I even upgrade my Power Supply to a 430w Thermaltake.

Things to consider...
1. Temperature for the CPU at full load..
2. Temperature of the gfx card in full load..
3. RAM timing like CL3-3-3 RAM force to run in 2-2-2 mode...
4. Air flow of the case, overheat northbridge..
5. Not enough voltage for o/c CPU...
6. Cheap power supply resulting low power efficency like 50% peak power max... Also the ampage on 12V rails... Low can cause instability since ur 6600 requires a +12v power source...Also, have you tried to use that graphic card you have in a different computer to see if it does the samething?

I don't have another pcie computer handy to test it. And yes I have updated all my drivers recently. The ram is the ram that came with the pc, so it can't be that. When you said 12v power source, did you mean a hook up? b/c this card doesn't have that option, it doesnt need to be hooked up directly to the psu.

about the temp. I've downloaded that Sandra program or whatever it is, and it showed everything was fine.

"and sound gets stuck,too"
Your sound getting stuck is called "looping". And,yes,it can cause your computer to freeze and restart. Lowering your sound settings in the options menu of your games might help. It has for me in the past. Although,I have neither of those games.

I'd recommend the 6800gs or the x1600xt.
However make sure that is your card what is giving you trouble.Free

It never happened/happens when I use my onboard ATI x200 graphics. I have a good power supply, the Thermaltake Silent Purepower 430W. It has to be the graphics card. I have an aw850 cobra aopen sound card, and after even lowering my sound qlty to 11hz(low), it still did it.

Not bad I guess for around $160 for both including shipping. If I still have issues, I can always return these and move on. thanks for the replies.Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0GHz 2000MHz FSB
