What can I buy to upgrade to a new video card that will be compatable with my computer? I currently have a Rage Pro Turbo card which can't support directx 9.0. (I need directx 9 for my son to play a game he got for xmas.) HELP! He is desperate to play it but I don't know what to get. Thanks!!

If you're looking for an affordable price and good performance I'd say the Radeon 9600 is a great video card for it. It may not run as great with 256 ram however, 512 should give the maximum performance. Directx 9 is compatible with Radeon 7500 and up, or Geforce 4(maybe 3) and up.

Why should poor computers exist?

have u tried installing directx? My card (geforce mx440) does not support directx 9, but i am still able to install directx 9.0c and play games that require directx. im not sure about ur card though. there's a difference requiring directx 9 and a directx 9 card. What game is your son trying to play? if u do need to upgrade, just look at the specifications of each card and see if it says directx 9 compatible.

Went out and just bought him a new computer BUT this one has graphics built-in/integrated into the motherboard. If graphics aren't good can I buy a new card that will fit into the PSI slot and then just disable the one on the motherboard? He wants to play rollercoaster tycoon 3 that needs good 3D graphics. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!

do you have an AGP slot as well as some PCI's? an agp card would be a lot better than just a pci card. But, yes i believe you can do that.

Your comp probably has an AGP slot. Look next to the PCI slots and you should see a shorter slot probably above the PCI's. Get a good card like the radeon 9800 pro, (128mb ram on the card is enough) and up your system's memory to at least 512.
