i had the old mx 440 128 mb sdram card and while playing a game it would crash to desktop i have a 2.5 amd processor with 512 ddr 3200 ram on a kn72 mobo so my processor overclocked runs as a 3.2 i new i had to upgrade my card cuz of the newer games on my old mx 440 with my processor overclocked games crash i ran as a 2.5 and wouldnt crash so i figured my card couldnt handle it so i upgraded to a fx 5500 nividia and still the same problem games crash 2 so whats up???
help.........

I assume you mean a 2500+ running as a 3200+? Did you raise the CPU voltage at all when you overclocked? It may not be a videocard issue at all...it may be that your CPU is undervolted but the problem isn't realized until you put it under a heavy load, such as gaming

do a little investigating on this processor and board its easily overclocked put the fsb 2 200 mhz and runs fine no need 2 adjust anything thanks 4 yo input though
help.........

You are oh so very wrong...but feel free to believe what you want. Every CPU is different, every board is different...some will overclock easily, some need a voltage increase...if you don't wanna try my suggestion, sit on your a$$ & wait for more replies

1st of all, you're posting a hardware question in the gaming forum...or you may have better luck in the overclocking forum.
One suggestion would be to try setting your 2500+ at it's stock speed of 1833mhz (11 x 166mz/333FSB) & see if your games are playable...if they are, your problems are probably caused by the overclock.
I assume you never stress tested your overclock settings for stability? So in effect, playing a game is your stress test...& it failed. Try using TOAST & PRIME95 instead. If you run into problems, try raising the CPU voltage...possibly the RAM voltage as well.
TOAST will really heat up your CPU, so keep an eye on those temps. Run it for 20 min to max it out. What temps are you getting now...idle & loaded?
I'm not gonna bother looking up the specs on your board or what options you have in the BIOS, but your default CPU voltage should be 1.65v. If you have stability issues when running PRIME95, up your CPU voltage to 1.675v & try again...still no good? Try it at 1.70v...you'll have to decide for yourself how high you're willing to take it.
You'll find Toast & Prime95 (plus a whole lot more) here:

Another suggestion would be to test your RAM using memtest86
http://www.memtest86.com
One last possibilty is a weak power supply. Wattage is one thing, amperage is another. You should have a minimum of 18A on the +12v rail...especially if you have several drives, several cooling fans, & a higher end video card that requires an extra 12v plugin from the PSU.

jam iz you just an or what wanna downgrade me and s--- like i said look at the k7nn2 and the 2500 barton chip sorry i called it a 2.5 pc master usaly when people ask what u have u say a 2..5 or a 1.8 not a 2500 or an 1800 if i lable things like u dont want then dont reply im just trying to find a solution 2 my problem and i believe it a driver problem my board set on 200 fsb straight overclocks to a 3.2 ran fine on old card untill i updddated drivers and win update..............
help.........

I gave you a detailed answer in response # 7...if you don't like it, don't try it.
Not all 2500+ CPUs are created equal...not all nForce2 boards are created equal. Some will run as a 3200+ (2200mhz @ 400FSB) without a glitch, some need a voltage increase, & some simply won't hit that speed no matter what you do. Remember that the 2500+ was labelled & sold as a 2500+ for a reason...if it ran reliably as a 3200+, AMD would have sold it as a 3200+.
"when people ask what u have u say a 2..5 or a 1.8 not a 2500 or an 1800"
You can call your CPU whatever you like, but a 2500+ is NOT a 2.5 & an 1800+ is NOT a 1.8...I think anyone in these forums will back me on that

lol jam...well johnny..dude...where do you live man?? you're calling amd 2500+ as 2.5?? there's no such a thing :) people here in computing.net are trying to help anyone the best they can and they're not getting paid for giving you solutions. You can either appreciate it or ignore it it's up to you...back to your problem...AMD XPs were known w/ their overheating issues (as far as I'm concerned, especially when you oc'ed) do as Jam said...set them at default setup and see what happens...

Dude, I'm not trying to be a d*ckhead, I'm trying to help. You said it yourself:
"i ran as a 2.5 and wouldnt crash"
You ran your CPU at the default 2500+ speed & it didn't crash. Your overclocked to 3200+ & it did. Why did you blame the video card? The crashing is caused by the overclock! And raising the CPU voltage may correct that. Arguing isn't going to help. Try what I suggested...if it doesn't work, change the settings back & try something else. Remember to stress test your settings. I supplied all the links necessary & explained how to go about it...give it a shot!
