My son is just entering into gaming with EA Sports software (MVP Baseball). Game keeps crashing and pretty sure it's due to the video card. PC info is as follows (I know it's old)
AMD Athlon, 1000 MHz (10 x 100)
Soyo K7VTA Pro v1.0 (1 ISA, 5 PCI, 1 AGP, 3 DIMM, Audio)Motherboard
Chipset VIA VT8363 Apollo KT133
System Memory 512 MB (SDRAM)
Display: Video Adapter NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 (32 MB)3D Accelerator nVIDIA RIVA TNT2
Could you make a suggestion of type of video card that is affordable and would work with the game and my current system? Planning to upgrade computer at a later date. Would appreciate any help.

radeon 9600xt 128mb/128 bit
$89

Presscot 2.5g @ 533/133
2x256mb Samsung
Pny geforce 6 6600 GT
40gb seagate HDD
i845GE

With your CPU and RAM, I wouldn't buy that card. Phil is right in that it's a good card, but it's overkill for your system. Save $30 and get this...

That card will still outpace the rest of your system fairly easily, so a 9600XT is just a waste.
What info do you have about the crashing? Error messages? Symptoms? When it happens exactly?
Might be able to help you with that.

The game sets up OK, but the when the first pitch is made, the screen crashes back to the desktop. Also as the game is being set up, quite a few of the graphics are missing showing "texture missing" where the graphic should be. I checked the tech support site which led me to the video card. The requirements for the game show the following for the video card requirements -
A video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM with DirectX 9.0 compatible driver and one of the supported chipsets.
Supported video cards:Nvidia GeForce 2 or Higher
ATI Radeon 7500 or Higher
Intel 915g
Maxtrox Parhelia

You definately need a new video card then, I'd go with the one heropsycho suggested. Your son should have no problems playing the game with that card.
AMD Barton 3200
1024mb PC3200 Ram
Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb
A7N8X-E Deluxe

"Nvidia GeForce 2 or Higher"
That's your answer. The TNT2 is two generations behind the Geforce2. New gfx card time!

heropsycho,
I can't believe you're recommending my card! LOL!
pcmom,
It's an excellent budget/gaming card...you won't find anything better for the price. If you don't wanna spend quite that much though, I'm sure a Geforce FX5200 will work...

Asus A7N8X-X
1800+ @ 8.5 x 200MHz
768MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7
Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro

Jam-
Check pcmom's specs. Why would I recommend anything more powerful?

I'm trying to run the Sims 2 and it is extremely slow. I have an integrated Intel Graphics Controller and I know that's bad. I'm thinking about purchasing the Diamond Stealth S80 Radeon 9200se 128MB DDR PCI Video Card (PCI being the only thing compatible with my motherboard). The only problem is, I also have an Intel Celeron 2.6Ghz processor. I know the minimum requirents say at least 800Mhz, but Celeron isn't known for being the top of the line. I wan't to make sure that if I spend the money on the video card, the game will run smoothly, or else there's no point in buying it in the first place. Can anyone suggest any new ideas?
James
