video card specs

My motherboard supports AGP 2x/4x. If I buy a video card that is AGP 8x, will I still get the same performance. Or should i look for an older card that is 2x/4x? ANy help would be appreciated.

Most (if not all) 8xAGP cards will run at 4xAGP too. There's not a lot of difference in the performance of the two speeds in reality. You could buy an 8xAGP card and run it in a 4xAGP slot and you can run a 4xAGP card in an 8xAGP slot too. 8x gives you more cards to choose from because hardly anyone makes 4xAGP only cards nowadays.

No, 8x has twice the bandwidth of 4x. Although this is true, not many games yet utilise over 4x AGP, therefore you won't see a big performance change. But, games such as FarCry and HL2 to name a couple may use more than 4x AGP thus you may see a 'bigger' performance increment.
If your motherboard only runs at 4x AGP, that's not that big of a deal, as if you had a 8x motherboard, you'd only see small performance increases in most current games.

on my motherboard 2 x is not supported. IM not sure but if you get 8x you will just waste money. that card with AGP 8X will only run at 4X, but if you buy a 4X card youll save at least $30
