Are you asking about a laptop or are you using a laptop to post your question?
Like g-f said, we need to know the make/model of your system...that way someone can look up the specs & find out what video card you have. Actually you should be able to do that yourself. Have you tried google?
If you only have 240MB RAM, it would seem that you have onboard video which is "stealing" 16MB from 256MB RAM. Regardless, 240MB (or 256MB) on an XP system isn't nearly enough RAM for gaming...it's barely enough for XP. And onboard video isn't good for gaming either, especially only 16MB.
This issue is usually pretty easy to remedy deadreaper.
Just to be clear, when you say .. my pc was full system restored.., would it be safe to assume you installed, or just reinstalled XP on an older laptop meant to run on Win 98 or below ? If so, XP probably did not recognize the older graphic chip during setup and installed the basic VGA drivers by default. The lower graphic settings are actually normal, and provided to allow you to at least see what's on the screen until you install the correct driver .
If you used the Restore CD that came with your laptop however, that's another story and you may have an actual problem.
If my assumption you put XP on an older machine is correct, the fix is actually quick and easy. Just find the correct display driver for your machine and update it. XP doesn't really care what kind of machine you have and the basic upgrade procedure is always the same. If you need some installation help AFTER you find the correct driver, post a request and I will follow up with some instructions.
