Subject: Video card benchmarks?OS: windows xp sp2CPU/Ram: athlon xp 1800 |
Comment: Hello all. I am looking into buying a new system that will give me a very nice and long overdue upgrade. right now the set up i am looking at has a amd 64 3700+ 939 cpu, a pci ex slot, and comes with a ati x600 256 mb vid card. My question is, is this video card a signifigant upgrade to my 9600 xt 256? I am new to pci express so i just want to make sure if the card that comes with the package i am getting is a better card overall, or is my 9600 xt still a better one. I have searched for a good site that listed benchmark results, but every site i visit is just someone trying to sell me the card, not tell me how good it is. anyway can anyone recomend a good site that has benchmark results, and or just some general advise on the upgrade i am looking at in general.

Reply: (edit)I find it amusing how quickly hardware & opinions change. 6-9 months ago the 6600GT was THE card to get, now it's "lowly"...LOL! Sabertooth is correct though, the X600 would definitely get spanked by the 6600GT. http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/02/vga_charts_viii/page11.html Hellz Yea!

Reply: (edit)Well, Jam... I had a 6600GT, and while I consider it pretty decent for the money, if you're playing FEAR or CoD2 at a higher res with some AA and AF, it's not the card you want. :-/ But I agree, I wouldn't exactly use the adjective "lowly" towards the 6600GT. Corn chips are no place for a mighty warrior!
