Im curious if anyone knows if my 470 watt power supply will run EVGA nVidia GeForce 8500GT 512MB DVI/HDTV PCI-Express Video Card (512-P2-N747-LR) and if so will it run it efficiently.Im trying to set up my pc for some gaming and im a bit new. So if anyone has any advice on any other video cards that might work better i would appretiate your advice. My budget isnt that high so i want to stick close to the price range of the video card i stated above. My HP tech told me 470 watts is all my motherboard can handle so thats my limit..I have 2 games i would like to atleast be able to run. Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Crysis..I know Crysis takes alot to run so if i can just get Crysis to run i should be able to play most games. My Intel V Card is junk lol.. HP Pavilion a1740n E6300 Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2048MB memory 320GB Hard Drive Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit Any Suggestions would be appretiated Thanks

The 8500GT is a VERY weak gaming card. You should have no problems.

He's full of sh!t. You could use a 1000W PSU if you really wanted to. The PSU doesn't run at 1000W, it's capable of 1000W. If your system only needs 400W, that's all the wattage the PSU will produce.

It ain't gonna happen with an 8500GT. You're gonna have to increase your video card budget.

Thanks for the advice..I was pretty sure the Tech was FOS to..He bounced around alot..All he wanted to do was sell me some HP CRAP basically..I still dont know exactly what type of card to get considering i dont have any gaming friends..So if anyone has any advice on a semi low budget card that would get the job done..Now that i know i can get a bigger power supply I should be able to work things out...

Im willing to spend around $130 which isnt alot i know but there seems to be alot of cards out there for around that much just figureing out whats worth a crap is what i need help with lol..Im a casual gamer so i dont need anything to heavy duty but i really do want to atleast be able to play crysis if at all possible considering it sets most benchmarks for games visually..

You could always go for the ATI Radeon x1300. It's around that price and works pretty good. I have that one and I play GRAW with no problems.

Thanks for the Advice! I think im going to go with this Card EVGA GeForce 8800 GT Video Card - 512MB DDR3, PCI Express 2.0, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, Video Card Ive read alot of reviews and it seems to be pretty good.Im goin to match it with a 500Watt power supply it should be enough to push it..

Don't invest in a 500W PSU unless you absolutely have to. You already have a 470W unit, why spend $75 (avg price for a decent 500W PSU) for a 30W gain? Post the amperage specs for the unit you have now...it *may* be adequate. No sense buying something you don't need.
As for the video card, the X1300 is a horrible suggestion...it's worse than the 8500GT. It might play GRAW, but it won't touch Crysis. The 800GT is an excellent choice.

The x1300, though a little on the old side, is not that bad of a card. Sure it's not the best available but it works great for its price point.

The X1300 was an entry level/budget card. Have a look at the following chart. I selected a few cards in the same performance category plus I threw in the 8800GT for comparison. There was no X1300 so I had to use the X1300Pro which is clocked considerably higher than the plain vanilla X1300. If the plain X1300 was included, my guess is it would be dead last.

I guess i didnt specify that i didnt have a new power supply yet (Jam) i still have my 250 watt power supply thats why i was thinking about how much power id need for my card.Im going to try to get a 500watt power supply. The problem is i dont know how to find the dimensions of most of the power supplies that im looking at..I want to make sure they will fit my case before I buy.Anyone know of any power supplies that give dimensions??Ive been looking around for a while now.I still need to take measurements of my power supply to see what room i have to work with..Im going to stick with that 8800GT card, but ive heard alot of people say its really long.I dont know if thats going to cause trouble with my unit or not.Anyone have any idea on the length of those cards? Thanks for all the help

In the very 1st sentence of the original post your wrote "Im curious if anyone knows if my 470 watt power supply will run...", Since you wrote "my", I assumed you already had the PSU.
All ATX PSUs are the same size, so if your case accepts a standard ATX PSU, you're all set. Here's a decent 500W unit unit with a single +12v rail @ 41A:

However, since that PSU has a $10 shipping charge, you might be better off going for this 610W unit with 49A on the single +12v rail...it ships for free so the price ends up being the same:

Here's some info you should read about PSUs:

If you need to know power supply dimensions, see page 32 & 33 in the ATX12V Power Supply Design Guide:

Yup. All you need to do is open your case & have a look at the PCI-e slot & the area directly behind it to see if there's going to be any conflicts. Here's your motherboard:

The only thing that looks like it *might* be a problem is the clips on the RAM slots...unless there's something in the case that's in the way?

wannabegamer08.....
just buy yourself a antec psu.
Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600
3 Gigs Ram
Windows Vista Home Premium
640 Gig HD
Quad Core All The Way !!
If It Isn't Broken Don't Fix It. !!!!

Care to recommend a specific model? Antec makes dozens of PSUs but I don't think they offer any with a single high amperage +12v rail & 80 PLUS Certified.
