Vice City PC Freeze during

When I am in "The Driver"scenario, the Hilary character disappears partway through the race, and I'm trapped in the scenario. If I continue the race to the end, the 'Mission Failed - Hilary is Dead!'message comes up, which I get. But right after, the screen goes black and the game freezes. I've waited for it to come back to normal for half an hour, to no avail. My only option is to Force-quit the game. I've talked to Rockstar North Tech Support, and have gotten no help. Any ideas out there?
