Hi guys. I'm thinking into getting watercooling for my radeon x1800xl since this thing runs very very hot (63-65 c idle, 75-77 c load)(well... it's summer here in Chile and my room is very warm so that doesn't help)
and I want to overclock :( . Of course with these temperatures I'm not taking risks...
So I was wandering if this would be nice
http://www.thermaltake.com/watercooling/cl-w0052TideWater/cl-w0052.htm
(the only watercooling product available where I live)...
Does this thing work with any GPU? How much do you think it can cool my card?
In the pictures it looks like it cools only one small part of the card... is that the main heat source of the gpu? I mean if cooling that down the rest of the card shouldn't get hot? cause with stock cooling the card is hot in every corner of it.

THANKS!

What's the price difference between a Radeon X1800XL + water cooling vs X1800XT without?

^^^a lot.

Water cooling.. im not sure, can you even get that for a card?

I bout a water cooling kit once, a guy wanted me to fit one to his computer. The CPU blocks on some models are pretty fiddly, and quite heavy, so im sure that finning one of those water blocks to a card could bend it, there pretty heavy.

It is effecient though, it cools by about 25-30 degrees depending how good the model is, but it will take you quite a while to fit them, but i suppose its worth it in the end.

Or, as Jam says, you could buy the x1800xt, and sell the x1800xl.

plus... when I bought my radeon x1800xl I didn't have any more money... Besides here in chile prices are let's say about 30% higher, so if you add 30% to a x1800xt it's much more than the x1800xl + watercooling. Here in Chile, the cheaper the product the lesser "extra price" it gets.

I could sell my radeon x1800xl for about 240.000 pesos and the radeon x1800xt costs 350.000 pesos! watercooling is only 40.000 pesos. prices are different here...

"What's the price difference between a Radeon X1800XL + water cooling vs X1800XT without?"

I asked that question because I have no idea what things cost where you come from. At newegg, the X1800XL sells for about $350 & the TideWater sells for about $85...the X800XT goes for about $500, so the difference is $65.

1 US dollar = 515.05 Chile Pesos

Well...

The reason I posted was if anyone can answer me this: "Does this thing work with any GPU? How much do you think it can cool my card?

It only cools the GPU, plus it will take up two PCI slots.

You have one of the fastest cards currently available...it's not fast enough for you? I believe if you remove the stock cooler, you remove the RAM cooling too, so that's something to consider. Not to mention, removing it will void the warranty. How about a cheap slot cooler instead?

thanks jam! I wasn't aware of the existance of those... hope I can find them here...
However... the x1800xl in my opinion it's pretty badly designed in cooling. I don't know about other cards... but this thing moves the hot air to the FRONT of the case, plus the cooling is facing downwards. In other words it takes air from the bottom of the case and moves it to the front. I was wandering how should I put one (or two) of those stock coolers to achieve the best cooling. If you have any advice about it I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for your help man.
