Im getting really bad framerates latly with my computer. games like Knights of the old republic I'm at 10-12 fps. Jedi academy 22-25 fps, Nhl 2004 30 fps. I got the frame rates using fraps (any good?)
I'm not running any programs in the back groung, I defrag once a week, or more when needed. I have a P4 1.7, 512mb pc133 ram, Geforce4 ti4600, 60 gig HD(30 gigs free)
when i tried to play far cry demo, it said my agp aperture size was to small, and to set it to at least 64mb, so i set it to 128mb. is that a proper setting for my system?
any help would be appreciated greatly, thanks

Hello. AGP Aperture should be set to defualt (64mb), increasing/decreasing it will not improve performance and may cause problems.

Have you gotten the *really bad frame rates* just recently? Have you installed the latest drivers for your GeForce and Mobo? If you want to improve fps & performance either you can overclock your GeForce or play games at a low resolution (800x600). Also scan for any spywares/viruses just in case, and enable DMA if your hard drive / controller supports it.

my computer has been getting slower and slower latly, I tried different drivers now using 41.09 also tried 40.72 and 43.45. I heard the newest NVIDIA drivers arnt very good for the TI line of geforce. I set the agp aperture to 64mb it seemed to help a little but I still have choppy game play
I use adawre regularly, and scan online for virus every other day.
how do I enable DMA, Im not sure what it is?

To enable DMA : Go to start - control panel - system - system devices and go to your hd controller properties. you can enable dma from there but note that only some hds have dma support.

You should also try uninstalling DirectX IF you are currently using 9.0b. Install DirectX 8.1 instead, the GeForce Ti Series are known to have compatability issues with DirectX 9 since it only supports DirectX 8.1 & lower only. To reinstall DirectX, go to a search engine and find a tool called DXBusTeR.

Good Luck...
