Hello, I have been playing computer games lately on my computer (a Gateway GT5428 with a nVidia 8600GT graphics card), but I've been noticing something about a few games (Counter-Strike Source in particular): sometimes the graphics become block like (vertical lines appear and distort the view). These distortions are not that serious, but it looks strange.

Are you cranking the game settings up to more than what the card can comfortably handle?
You need not get carried away with the card's adequacy at handling modern games, if I was you, the max resolution I'd go with is 1024x768 on low to medium settings to avoid artifacting.
