Okay, so I'm trying to install Unreal Tournament 2004 onto my Suse linux laptop. The game ran *okay* on the laptop under Windows, so I figure it'll do the same under Linux. Of course, as it turns out, the problem is not the game, but the installer.

To avoid the common cd reading problems the installer seems to have under Linux, I copied all the cd images to the hard drive and mounted them as individual drives. When I do the install, it gets to the second disk and goes for a bit before crapping out and telling me that it "failed to fully write" some file. This seems to be a common problem according to Google, but the only solutions seem to be running as root (which I am), copying the images to the hard drive (which I did) and recompiling the kernel (which I'm not willing to do).

Any other ideas?
