hello all
i just rang dell tech support again today. and was talking to a guy that went through my whole system to see if it was upgradable to geforce 8800gtx 768mb card.first he said the architecture of the motherboard might be different to support the 8800gtx and i might need a new motherboard. he then decided to ask 2 top technical advisors about this issue and they said to him that this system would be able to use the 8800gtx no problem but they said i might have a problem with the psu. because the 8800gtx needs a hell of alot of power. well i know that 650 watt is more than capable to run it .so any ideas why these technical guys think my psu might not have enough power. the two power dongles from the psu match the 8800gtx card. im just confused as to why they said the psu might not have enough power ?

Obviously they do not want you quoting them if you end up damaging your equipment as a result of you adding a third party supplied add-on to your machine per their suggestion -- that's the mantra in technical support. Secondly, you are a potential return customer & I don't think they'll pass up the perfect opportunity to sell you more hardware whether you need it or not .... LOL

You think about it. At first, one of their reps said you need a new motherboard & I recall us telling you the motherboard is compatible with an 8800GTX, now it looks like the pitch is for a proprietary PSU. Eventually they might suggest you buy the card & PSU from them to avoid problems.

LOL i know now what their like Sabertooth. it just sounded insane that he suggested my psu would have a problem. which i knew the psu was fine. i even clarified to him the point that a psu at 500-watt is the recommended for an 8800gtx and im using 650-watt. but he went off the topic and stuck to his original crap well if thats the way they work i'll save a headache and money from ringing them again. as usual Sabertooth I should have seen it comming.
cheers again Sabertooth for all the quick responses you gave and from the older posts as well
best wishes
