Subject: upgrading graphicsOS: xpCPU/Ram: 768 |
Comment: Alright I have a Compaq Evo D510 e-PC - P4 2 GHz with 64MB integrated graphics (Intel 845G). I understand this isnt upgradable but I have read that "the Compaq Evo D510 Small Form Factor takes up less space than any other corporate machine in our roundup, but it still has room for a CD-ROM drive, a floppy disk drive, two PCI slots, and—should you wish to upgrade the machine's integrated Intel 845G graphics chip set—a half-height AGP slot." Therefore there is a way to upgrade the graphics. Now what I need is someone with the technical know-how to tell me what I should be looking for and how I should go about in upgrading the graphics for this system. Please dont suggest a new PC, I know this system is shabby for gaming but as long as im able to get it to run World of Warcraft as smooth as possible then im fine for now. Many thanks for your time, Prof.

Reply: (edit)Due to the fact that you have a SFF system, your choices in video cards will be severely limited. Not only do you need to find a low profile AGP card, but it needs to be a card with a low profile mounting bracket too. And apparently it has to be in the UK? You *may* have better luck finding a low profile card with a standard mounting bracket, then replacing the standard bracket with a low profile bracket such as this one: http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?... The video card would have to have the video outputs in the right locations though. This one would probably work. Unfortunately, the FX5200 isn't a great card, but it's a lot better than onboard graphics. http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?...
