Well hiya guys I was just wondering a few things. I was going to change my mboard and processor to this mboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131530 processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103539 Now for the processor, should I just get the 4000+ cause it will only be 30 dollars more or just stick with 3700+? Now rite atm I have a GeForce 6800GS PCI-E and I wanted know what I could upgrade to. Nothing too expensive but a decent one. So yeah I was looking for your opinion :D btw my current psu is 500w and its a antec. I 4got the model and stuff but i can post it up later. But would it support all the stuff im putting in my comp? Thanks in advance :D
You could probably get the 3700+ and overclock it if you want, or you could wait for core 2 duo of intel. Oh and about the video card, that card would last you quite some time and i suggest upgrading that when directx10 capable cards are available.
The Conroe is already out, that's why the 3700+ only costs $105...a couple of weeks ago it was almost twice that much.
I would suggest a different motherboard. Contrary to the customer reviews, the DFI Ultra Infinity is an excellent board. But it is finicky when it comes to RAM & you'll need a good PSU (looks like your probably have that covered with your 500W Antec)
Would a corsair ram do good in a DFI board? I was kinda going away from DFI cause of how delicate it was. Well if you say so :D Thanks
Also, atm I have AMD Sempron 2800+ 754, and I try to oc it to 2.0ghz. I only got it to 1.8ghz cause whenever I try to get to 2.0 it just reboots. My board I have right now is a MSI K8N NEO3-F Socket 754. Idk if im even doing it rite. Im using clockgen to test out if it works , any help?
Overclocking should be done thru the BIOS, not with a software program.
Without looking at your board's manual, I can only give you some generic settings to try, but you *should* be able to get your CPU to run at 2.0GHz (at least).
CPU freq = 250MHz CPU multi = 8x HTT multi = 3x (possibly 4x) RAM freq = 166MHz (if you have PC3200) AGP = 66MHz PCI-Express = 100MHz Spread Spectrum = disabled CPU voltage = increase as needed to stabilize the overclock (add 0.025v at a time)
The above settings will clock the CPU at 2.0GHz with an HTT bus of 750MHz (3x) or 1000MHz (4x). The RAM will run at 208.3MHz.
I've built several systems off the Infinity board. Not once have I had a RAM compatibility issue. I've used Corsair ValueRAM, various OCZ, and two different types of Mushkin RAM. Not a single problem with any of them. Not that I'm arguing against the LANParty; it's a good board, too. :-)
For a CPU, I'd seriously consider looking at dual core at this point with 1M cache per core. The X2 4400 is only $250 now, down from $430 just a week ago.
I'd hold off on upgrading your video card. Sure the 7800GT and the 7900GT are faster, but I'd put that money on the X2 4400, as the 6800GT will run everything out there pretty well.
